Augustana rallies to retain the Key to the City

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The Augustana football team will keep ahold of the Key to the City, thanks to a fourth quarter comeback in Saturday’s rivalry game.

The Vikings scored 19 fourth quarter points to edge USF 29-28 at Bob Young Field.

USF dominated the first half of the game, leading 14-3 at halftime and holding Augustana to just 73 yards of offense.

The Vikings turned the tide in the second half with a 75 yard rushing touchdown by Breylon Blount.

USF responded with 14 straight points with a receiving and rushing touchdown from Hank Brown Jr.

The third quarter ended and the Vikings switched sides of the field, putting the wind at their back. That made a big difference as they scored 19 points in the fourth quarter to come back and win.

Richard Lucero Jr. connected with Isaiah Huber for a 24 yard touchdown pass with 1:18 to play. Sam Scholten ran in the two point conversion to give them the 29-28 lead.

57 points were scored in the game, with 50 of them being scored with the wind.

Lucero Jr., a true freshman making his first start, was 17-28 for 231 yards and two touchdowns.

The Vikings are now 6-0 on the season, while USF falls to 3-3.
