Lewis’ head collided into the brick wall past Oklahoma’s end zone while attempting to catch a touchdown pass.

The ball was overthrown and that caused the wide receiver to run into the wall at full speed in his bid to catch it.

The wall lis placed relatively close to the gridiron where the action takes place.

Lewis was on the ground for several minutes until he was finally carted off.

While being stretchered off, almost the entire Oklahoma roster surrounded him in support.

According to Sooner Sports Network, Lewis’ X-rays came back negative.

The same source claims the player was awake and walking around in the locker room at half-time.

However, the exact severity of his injuries still remains unclear.

Fans stormed social media criticising the decision to have the wall so close to the touchdown line without any padding.

One tweeted: “Why in God’s name is there a brick wall a couple strides away from the back of end zone?”

Another commented: “Why no padding?!”

A third said: “Why the f*** is that s*** not padded?”

And some other fans sent prayers for Lewis’ quick recovery.

One wrote: “Get well soon brother.”

Another stated: “Praying for you.”

And that one said: “Hope to see you back soon.”

Standing out

Lewis joined the Sooners after a recent transfer from Southern Illinois.

This is the fourth college the talented player competes for after stints at UCLA and Wisconsin.

And he has already established himself as one of the Sooners’ most trusted receivers by racking up 210 yards and two touchdowns on 17 receptions so far this season.

Lewis quickly earned his starting place for the Sooners after an impressive pre-season camp.

That was when Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer sang his praises.

Mateer said: “He definitely has a lot of spirit and passion for the game of football, and he loves winning, and he hates losing, which is good for the team.

“He can get after it a little bit…. He’s great.”
