The budget-friendly fleece throw from Mainstays has become a cozy must-have as temperatures start to dip.

The item is available nationwide and online at Walmart stores, priced at just $4.22.

Customers say it’s the perfect way to stay warm without turning up the thermostat.

The Mainstays Fleece Throw measures 50 inches by 60 inches and is made from a blend of 70% recycled polyester and 30% polyester, offering comfort with a sustainable twist.

It comes in several stylish patterns – including Red Plaid, Dog Print, Mushroom, Paw Print, Blue Plaid, and Striped – all priced the same.

Walmart shoppers have rated the item 4.7 stars out of 5 from more than 160 reviews, praising its softness and value for money.

“These are thin but great, and I love the price,” one buyer said.

“I fold these and put them in my cats’ big insulated cat-house for when they nap outside.”

Another customer added: “The grandkids keep taking them home, so I have to keep buying more. They hold up great and remain soft and pill-free after many washings.”

A third reviewer said: “I love the size. I use them on my chair, and you can cover yourself while you sit. Plus, I love dogs, and the pattern I bought was with dogs.”

The throw is also machine washable, making it easy to care for during the colder months.

It’s hailed as a cheap alternative to cranking up the heat as energy costs rise heading into winter.

And while it’s perfect for snuggling up indoors, experts say there are even more ways to keep your home warm and your bills low this winter.

Energy advisors recommend turning your thermostat down and only heating your home when it’s necessary.

Energy Bills: By the Numbers

  • 64% of Americans whose household pays a monthly electric and gas utility bill say those bills have increased compared to a year ago.
  • 63% of billpayers indicate that their electric and gas utility bills are adding to their financial stress.
  • 48% of all Americans say that rising electric and gas utility bills for consumers like them is a bad sign for the economy.
  • 60% of Americans say they are not familiar with the state or local regulatory body that determines their utility bills. In a separate open-ended question, around 9 in 10 respondents could not correctly name their specific regulatory body.

According to EDF Energy, the common belief that keeping your heat on low all day is cheaper is a myth – it’s best to only turn it on when needed.

They advise setting timers or using your thermostat’s program function to schedule heating around your day.

Another misconception is that cranking your thermostat up heats your home faster.

Experts say it doesn’t – it just keeps your boiler running longer and wastes energy.

To keep your house warm after heating it, draught-proofing is key.

Blocking gaps under doors with a towel or blanket, covering letterboxes, and sealing small keyholes can make a big difference.

Lastly, try to avoid heating empty rooms – close vents or doors to spaces you’re not using to save gas and money.
