Minnesota Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell sends emotional message to London hero Jordan Addison after benching receiver

JORDAN Addison scored a last-gasp game-winning touchdown after climbing out of the naughty chair.

The Minnesota Vikings wide receiver was benched by his coach for the first quarter of Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns.

Addison, 23, missed a team event this week in London.

He was forced to watch the start of the game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium from the sideline.

But he caught a 12-yard touchdown pass from Carson Wentz with 25 seconds remaining to snatch a 21-17 win.

Head coach Kevin O’Connell said, “We’re always going to keep a lot of those details in house.

“But he missed a walk-through this week and those types of things aren’t in alignment with our standards.

“We wanted to make sure he was held accountable for that.

“But at the same time, he knows that and he handled it professionally.

“He spoke with the team to let them know that whenever I give them the opportunity to go in the game, they can count on him and he makes the game winning catch.”

Addison missed the first three games of the 2025 season through suspension.

He returned to the field last week in Dublin and became the last-gasp hero in London on Sunday.

“I love Jordan Addison,” O’Connell added.

“He’s a guy that I care about tremendously and he knows that every guy in that locker room has his back.

“He knows that I will never waver in my confidence and belief in him.

“But at the same time, we’ve got standards and personal responsibility and accountability are huge if you want to talk about culture.”

The win improved the Vikings’ record to 3-2 ahead of their bye week.

They will hope to get quarterback JJ McCarthy back in Week 7 after his high ankle sprain suffered in Week 2.

And Addison wants to make up for lost time with McCarthy during the bye week after his suspension.

Addison said, “Coach always has got my back, no matter what.

“No one man is bigger than the programme and it’s a real brotherhood in here – we all got each other’s back.

“It took all of us, it didn’t just take me.

“I ended up making the play for us but everybody did a good job driving us down the field.”
