Cash App is a mobile app used for payments where users can send and receive money, access a debit card and invest in stocks.
The lawsuit alleged that Cash App incentivized users to send pre-filled text messages to their contacts without the recipients’ consent, according to Top Class Actions.
The suit was filed in Washington which has a law barring individuals and companies from sending spam text messages to state residents without their consent.
The company has not admitted any wrongdoing in this case but agreed to a settlement to resolve the allegations.
Cash App did not immediately respond to The U.S. Sun’s request for comment but maintained in court filings that it did not provide “substantial assistance” to the app’s users sending texts through the “Invite Friends” feature.
“Block did not initiate or assist in the transmission of a text message to Plaintiff and/or others alleged to be members of the putative class,” the company said in court filings, per Payments Dive.
AM I ELIGIBLE?
In order to be eligible you must have received a Cash App referral text between November 14, 2019 and August 7, 2025.
An example of an Invite Friends text would be: “Hey! I’ve been using Cash App to send money and spend using the Cash Card. Try it using my code and you’ll get $5. FVRJ1PH https://cash.app/app/FVRJ1PH.”
You must also have been a Washington resident at the time you received the text.
Eligibility further requires you did not affirmatively and clearly consent to receive the text in advance.
Those eligible must submit a claim form by October 27 in order to receive payment.
The payments for each settlement class member are estimated to be between $88 and $147.
The amount received also depends on the number of claimants total.
Those who are eligible can file a claim online or by mail.
What’s a class-action settlement?

Class action lawsuits offer groups of people, or ‘classes,’ a way to band together in court.
These suits are often brought by one or a few people who allege a company or other entity has wronged a large group of people.
When a suit becomes a class action, it extends to all “class members,” or people who may have similar complaints to those who filed the suit.
Companies often settle class actions – offering payment to class members who typically waive their right to pursue further legal action by accepting money.
These payout agreements frequently include statements by the defendant denying wrongdoing. Companies tend to settle class actions to avoid the costs of further litigation.
Pollution, discrimination, or false advertising are a few examples of what can land a class action on a company’s doorstep.
Claims can be filed on Bottoms Text Settlement website. In order to begin you’ll have to enter the phone number from which you received the referral text.
If you no longer have access to that phone number, you’re able to mark that on the claim form.
The payments will be issued after Block Inc., the company behind Cash App, gets final approval by the court.
ANOTHER SUIT
This class action suit comes nearly one year after a claim deadline was issued from another class action suit against Block and Cash App Investing, LLC.
The previous class action suit alleged the companies were negligent, breached obligations and made misrepresentations in connection with data security incidents in April 2022 and October 2023.
That suit also alleged fraudulent and unauthorized withdrawals and transfers of funds were made.
Block and Cash App denied any wrongdoing and agreed to settle.
There’s three settlements worth up to $5,200 that Americans can claim before October 8.
A class action lawsuit against Zillow was recently filed, alleging home prices have been inflated due to secret fees.
