Storm Center PM Update: Unsettled Through Midweek; Hot by the Weekend

SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO) — We’ve seen a few rounds of strong to severe thunderstorms in a few areas so far, and more is possible as we head into the evening.

While the risk for strong to severe storms is conditional, there is the potential to see additional storms fire up and push through southeastern KELOLAND.

Marginal and slight risks for severe weather are in place near/east of I-29 as well as in southern and western South Dakota. An enhanced risk is in place along and east of the Buffalo Ridge in SW Minnesota. Large, damaging hail is the main concern, with gusty winds and an isolated tornado being secondary concerns.

As mentioned earlier, the risk for severe weather is conditional. If we are unable to break the cap in the atmosphere, then it will be more difficult to get severe weather to set up and move through the area. All the same, please stay weather aware through the first part of the night.

It won’t be the last time we talk about the potential to see scattered showers and thunderstorms. In fact, Tuesday holds a marginal risk for severe weather near and south of I-90. Wind and hail are the main concern.

We’ll hold a chance for some showers and storms on Wednesday East River, while we’re mainly quiet out west. Another round of showers and storms is possible later Thursday into Thursday night for eastern KELOLAND before we finally begin to get a break from the action.

When we do, we turn up the heat across the region. 90s are likely for much of the area, and it’ll be a bit humid at times as well. Keep this in mind if you have outdoor plans this weekend. Showers try to move back in on Monday.

Here’s a look at your extended forecast:
