What a grand finale it is turning out to be for Bollywood, especially when it comes to love stories. First it was Saiyaara that turned out to be a surprise blockbuster. Then there was Diwali hit Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat that no one could see coming. The hattrick of successes continued with Tere Ishk Mein turning out to be a century maker. Now it’s Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri which is the fourth notable romantic entertainer of the year and is carrying good expectations.
What helps the film further is that it has comedy element as well other than romance and drama. Otherwise, each of the three romantic successes so far has been an intense drama. Ahaan Panday and Aneet Pedda’s film had an Alzheimer’s angle to it. Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa film was more of a revenge story. Dhanush and Kriti Sanon starrer was a volatile affair with both characters being emotionally distraught. However Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday film is more of a classic romcom that promises to have laughter element aplenty with pyaar, takraar aur izhaar coming into play.
One has been waiting for a film like this to arrive for the longest time and this one appears to be fitting the bill, with rich production values (Dharma Productions, Namah Pictures) and chartbuster music (Vishal-Sheykhar) helping the cause. Add to that the fact that the director (Sameer Vidwans) is someone who has shown what he is capable of when it comes to a romantic drama (SatyaPrem Ki Katha), and you know that with comedy element being added to it, he would deliver well here as well.
The best part is that audiences are in mood to step into theatres, as seen in last few weeks with first Tere Ishk Mein hitting a century and then Dhurandhar going really huge with 500 Crore Club being entered in a jiffy and 600 and 700 crores milestones all set to be surpassed in quick time. Then there is Avatar: Fire and Ash as well which is all set to be a 100 crores runner which means audiences are back to their regular cinema visits for big screen entertainment.
One may argue that there is too much happening in quick time for the audiences and whether they would have ample time space, funds and emotional energy available to invest in films week after week. Well, this is where the continuity factor comes into play. When the season is right and a film is good then the magic continues week after week.
Moreover, what’s most important is that this is also a very strong holiday season where traditionally films have done well at least from an opening standpoint. 25th December, Christmas, officially marks the start of the holiday season that continues right till the weekend after 1st January and here it’s falling on Thursday which means Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri has 10 straight uninterrupted days ahead before people get back to business.
Of course, it all eventually boils down to what the final content is and whether that’s good enough to entice audiences. One would get to know about that in a few days from now but when it comes to getting the stage, the setting and the mood right, Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri has pitched itself well for its theatrical arrival.
