When does it land? Not before New Year’s Eve. It’s a long, long stretch that we get to witness in the Volume 2 release. Everything just keeps adding on and piling up—with the intention to make you wait for the finale. We are hanging there for Vecna to be conquered, any moment, but expect nothing of it in Volume 2. Every time I stream Stranger Things on Netflix, I fail to resonate with the characters. Could be because I am wholeheartedly a Potterhead.
Volume 2 comes with three episodes: “Shock Jock,” “Escape From Camazotz,” and “The Bridge.” Shock Jock comes up with a plan: an attempt to reconnect with Will is made through a local radio station. This hacking eventually allows Will to resist Vecna, giving Max and Holly a chance to navigate to Vecna’s mindscape. The series is a whole lot of mind games and psychic powers—mostly Will’s, who has them and can therefore connect to Vecna. It’s a similar connection between Harry Potter’s scar and Voldemort. The episode comes with a climax where Will’s mental intrusion backfires and, therefore, gets possessed by Vecna. It’s all dimension play throughout.
In the third episode, The Bridge, it scores upon Vecna’s goal. His goal is to merge The Abyss with the real world and then destroy humanity. The team propels a plan, therefore, entering the Upside Down to rescue the kidnapped children and then destroying the bridge forever by using a bomb. The episode ends with the warming up for the finale, The Rightside Up.
And now we wait for the finale to land.
