REMOTE workers are being offered the chance at thousands of dollars through one-time payments and monthly distributions.

Those interested would need to make an important change to qualify for the free money.

That involves moving, potentially across the country, to Paducah, Kentucky, located near the state’s western border to Illinois.

Paducah is a relatively small city, having a population noted by the US Census Bureau at just under 27,000 as of 2024.

It’s attempting to grow, and to draw in more residents it recently launched the “remote worker incentive program,” per a dedicated page on the city’s website.

They would be “an important piece of the Paducah puzzle that helps us grow, succeed, and achieve Paducah’s mission — to be the best city in the world.”

Remote workers who take part in the ambitious goal and relocate to Paducah can get financial incentives from the city.

MONEY MOVES

That includes $2,500 in a cash reimbursement for moving related expenses.

This could be applied to a down payment on a home, a rental deposit, packing materials, moving trucks, and more, per a fact sheet.

Not to mention, remote workers who relocate to Paducah could also get $70 per month to go toward internet services, an essential tool to complete a job in a remote capacity.

Other perks include a “quality of life package” worth roughly $1,150.

That cash goes toward “tickets/passes, training, memberships, and experiences from a variety of Paducah’s community partners.”

The money could be used at local museums, schools, and even entertainment venues, according to the city website.

Paducah is actually known for its arts, and has been part of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network for several years.

It’s also cited by the Paducah Area Chamber of Commerce as having a “stable economy, healthy business climate, and outstanding schools and neighborhoods.”

To become eligible for the opportunity, Americans must meet some crucial criteria.

Perks:

  • $2,500 for moving related expenses
  • $1,150 quality of life package
  • $70 monthly for internet costs

QUALFYING CRITERIA

First, they must be 21 or older.

Second, they must make Paducah their primary residence within three months of getting accepted by the city.

Applicants must commit to living in Paducah at a minimum one year longer than the 12-month program lasts, so two years.

Two other requirements include residing a minimum of 100 miles from Paducah when applying and having a full-time job that isn’t within that same distance.

Average home prices in Paducah this year are at around $177,908, per Zillow.

For one bedroom apartments in the city, its about $900 monthly.

This isn’t the first time remote worker incentives have been offered by cities in recent years.

A tiny US county with a little-known wine region has paid up to $19,000 to some Americans who moved there since 2019.

Another city in the south was paying up to $10,000 as part of a program in October.
