A special forces cavalry unit named Chaiyanuphap engaged in a confrontation with approximately 30 drug traffickers during a patrol operation in Chiang Mai. The clash took place yesterday, June 23, in Mueang Na subdistrict, Chiang Dao district, Chiang Mai province, resulting in the seizure of over six million methamphetamine tablets.

While patrolling in Baan Arunothai, soldiers from the 2nd Cavalry Company of the Chaiyanuphap Task Force encountered a group of around 30 people transporting illegal drugs. Each person carried a modified backpack.

When the soldiers revealed themselves and requested to search the group, the traffickers responded by opening fire, leading to a five-minute exchange. No injuries were sustained by the soldiers during the encounter.

The operational team secured the area following the shootout and searched, discovering 30 modified backpacks. Each backpack contained 200,000 methamphetamine tablets, totalling six million tablets.

Major General Kidakorn Chantra, commander of the Pha Muang Forces, instructed Colonel Maitree Srisantia, chief of staff of the Pha Muang Forces, to oversee the inspection and seizure of the drugs.

The seized narcotics have been handed over to Chiang Dao Police Station for further legal proceedings, reported KhaoSod.

In similar news, in Chiang Rai’s Mae Fah Luang district, a drug trafficker was killed and 4.2 million meth pills were seized after a 10-minute shootout between armed smugglers and army forces in the early hours of June 6.

Troops from the Phra Chao Taksin special unit under the Pha Muang task force encountered a group of 15 to 20 individuals carrying large backpacks in a forested area near Ban Pang Nun Phatthana in tambon Mae Fah Luang around 5.15am. When soldiers attempted to search them, the group opened fire, sparking a brief exchange of gunfire.

After the gunfire ended, soldiers recovered 21 sacks, each filled with 200,000 methamphetamine pills. One trafficker was found dead at the scene, while the rest managed to flee.
