As a word, Labubu has no meaning, it simply refers to a range of vinyl plush toys known for their mischievous grins and big eyes.
The toys went viral during COVID times, and eventually made their way over to the US.
It wasn’t until April 2024 that the popularity of the Labubu soared, when Thai-born K-pop superstar Lisa began posting photos on Instagram with various Labubu dolls.
Then, other celebrities were spotted with them, from Rihanna to Kim Kardashian.
