For years, fans had been begging PepsiCo to re-release an iconic Slice Soda flavor.
Slice Soda was first introduced back in 1984 as “Pepsi’s answer to Sprite”.
In 2024, the former PepsiCo brand was acquired by Suja Life, and was given back to anticipating fans.
At the start of 2025, the beloved brand came back after a 15 year hiatus to the delight of shoppers.
The new flavors initially came in Slice Orange and Lemon Lime Soda, and was teased with a new healthier menu that only contained five grams of sugar.
On social media, one person wrote: “Can’t wait to stock my fridge with this!”
A second customer said: “These were great soda years ago, I’ll be on the lookout!”
And a third added: “It tastes just like I remember it.”
Nicole Portwood, Chief Marketing Officer at Suja Life, said: “Today’s Slice is a healthified version of the original, while tasting like pure nostalgia.
“Parallel to that, blending the best of then and now, our summer activities, including The Fizz FM, are activations only this brand can do – celebrating the era in which the brand was born but with a retro-refreshed Slice edge.”
The Fizz FM is a curated radio station of three looping hours of music with lyrics about soda.
It features the most popular genera from the 1980s and 1990s, and has been running since June 20.
NEW SLICE FLAVOR
Excitement for more from Slice has only grown in recent months, and now, a classic flavor has returned to store shelves.
The brand has brought back Slice Cherry Cola Soda, and has been described as having “real fizz and real classic flavors.”
However, the new cherry soda is now sweetened with stevia leaf extract and organic cane sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup.
The fructose corn syrup is the element that contributed to its distinctive taste in the 1980s.
This new flavor has been a long time coming, given how hard people have been clamoring for it.
Before the release, an unopened bottle of Slice Cherry Soda could be bought online for a whopping $300.
Slice Cherry Cola Soda is now officially available at Sprouts Farmers Markets nationwide, and is sold in cans under $3.
The cherry flavor will then be given a wider distributions in July, and will be seen on more store shelves as a result.
Demand is high for fun and fresh sodas, and Slice’s rival Coke has noticed this.
Earlier this month, Coca-Cola introduced four new fusion flavors in partnership with Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
The drinks combine four Coca-Cola owned brands, including Sprite, Fanta and Barq’s, and are only available at AMC Theatres.
