A WOMAN saved cash on new tires after she overheard a deal being offered to another customer.
All it took was flashing her Costco membership card at a rival store.

The incident happened at a Discount Tire location, according to a TikTok influencer.
Pie & Prayer (@pieandprayer) shared her story in a video posted on Saturday.
“If you’re getting new tires from Discount Tire and you have a Costco membership, Costco does not have an installation fee,” she said.
“And if you tell them that you have a Costco membership, Discount Tire will waive the installation.”
The tip came after she caught wind of a private exchange at the counter between a Discount Tire salesman and a couple looking to buy new tires.
The TikToker said she had gone to buy tires herself when she overheard the salesperson giving the customers a useful tip.
The rep reportedly asked if they were looking at Costco for tires as well, to which they replied in the affirmative.
After the woman told him yes, that’s when things got interesting.
“He goes, ‘We will waive the installation fee, since they waive the installation fee,’” Pie & Prayer recalled.
“They still passed, but it saved me money.”
“So I pulled [my Costco card] out, and he goes, ‘Alright,’ and waived the price of installation, which saved a lot of money because they charge per tire.”
She didn’t say how much she saved exactly, but Discount Tire typically charges around $20 per tire for installation.
Her video racked up over 1 million views, more than 50,000 likes, and 753 comments at the time of writing.
In the comments section, other users debated the pros and cons of Costco versus Discount Tire.
Costco membership sharing guidelines
Costco has strict rules for membership use that shoppers must follow and they’ve been cracking down on offenders in recent years.
- Primary Member Use: Only the primary cardholder can use this Costco membership card. Sharing it for purchases is not allowed as the photo on the card must match the person using it.
- Household Card: Each primary member can add one free household cardholder who lives at the same address. This person will receive their own membership card and can shop at Costco independently.
- Guest Policy: Members can bring up to two guests per visit to Costco. However, only the member can make purchases. Guests must be accompanied by the member.
- Authorized Cardholder: For an additional fee, you can add an authorized cardholder, such as a family member or friend, who doesn’t reside at your address. They will receive their own card and can shop independently.

“The only benefit – and I mean the only benefit – to buying at Discount Tire is they have more locations and you can get in and out faster,” another wrote.
“Used to work at Costco Tire. People always wait until it snows, tell them it will be about 5 hrs. for installation. They stomp out, ‘I’m going to Discount Tire.’ 2 hrs later come back, ‘They said I can get in for a week,’” another person wrote.
“Everything else Costco does better.”

Costco’s tire package includes lifetime rotation, balancing, and flat repair.
Discount Tire matches prices and offers similar services under its Life of Tire Maintenance deal.
According to the company website, the discount shop will “match or beat any competitor’s price for the same product,” including tires, though the “competitor’s price must include installation.”
While some say Costco is cheaper, others prefer the convenience and quicker service at Discount Tire.
Costco members can also use their card for perks outside the warehouse, like getting travel deals, cheaper gas, and even discounts at repair shops and auto services.
Discount Tire didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment by The U.S. Sun.
