Starbucks has a new ‘firework’ drink available from July 1 – and employees say it’s a ‘summer vacation in a cup’

STARBUCKS has kicked off its Independence Day celebration today, July 1 with a new bevvy bearing a patriotic color scheme.

The new Firework Frappuccino gets its red, white and blue coloring from a combination of the Starbucks Summer-Berry Refresher with coconut milk, poured over the refresher’s raspberry-flavored pearls.

The refreshing beverage is then topped with a swirl of strawberry purée and vanilla sweet cream cold foam.

However, those keen to give this drink a go, will have to be quick, bosses warned.

According to the popular coffee chain, the Firework Frappuccino is on the menu for a limited time only.

Customers will be able to get their hands on the bevvy for just one week, ending Monday, July 7.

Amanda Conaway, a Starbucks product manager who helped in the drink’s creation, described the drink as “a summer vacation in a cup” in a press release.

“From the popping pearls to the creamy vanilla sweet cream, it’s a vibrant, textured beverage inspired by the sights and sounds of summer,” she told USA Today.

The Firework Frappuccino is one of four new Frappuccino beverages the coffee giant had previously announced were coming to its coffee shops this month.

The other three beverages – Salted Caramel Mocha Strato Frappuccino, Strawberry Matcha Strato Frappuccino and Brown Sugar Strato Frappuccino – are expected later in July.

These new drink offerings come after Starbucks pulled several Frappuccinos and other drinks from its menu in March.

The move to a simpler menu was part of CEO Brian Niccol’s “Back to Starbucks” plan to revitalize the Seattle-based coffee chain in the U.S.

As of June 24, Starbucks also announced it would begin charging 80 cents for any additional combination of syrup or sauce to an unflavored beverage.

However, if you add or substitute sauces or syrups to a preflavored beverage – such as adding vanilla syrup to a mocha – customers won’t have to fork out extra.

Starbucks got a jump on the season, making its summer menu available May 20.

New on the menu is the Iced Horchata Oatmilk Shaken Espresso and a Strawberries & Cream Cake Pop.

Starbucks Changes

STARBUCKS has announced a series of updates that will impact all coffeehouses.

These include:

  • 30% of food and beverage items being cut from the menu
  • Self-serve condiment bars brought back
  • Free refills of hot or iced brewed coffees
  • Dine-in customers will be able to get drinks in a ceramic mug
  • Open-door policy reversed
  • Return of handwritten labels on to-go cups

Back for the summer are the Summer-Berry Starbucks Refreshers, which in addition to the Summer-Berry Refresher includes a Summer-Berry Lemonade Refresher and the Summer Skies drink made with coconut milk.

Over the last few years, Starbucks has made in-store decisions that have backfired with customers.

This includes pulling out 30,000 comfortable seats, installing hard wooden stools, blocking electrical outlets and turning stores into takeout counters for picking up mobile orders.

As a result, customers fled to local coffee shops, other chains and brewed more coffee at home.

Now the company is making sweeping renovations to 1,000 stores in a bid to win back customers looking to sit down for a cup of coffee.

This will see a return of comfy chairs, tables, and power outlets within the next year.

Each redesign will look slightly different with new lighting, better acoustics and other improvements including a variety of different seats in stores.

This is to encourage people to come in for different purposes whether that’s working on a laptop, having a meeting or reading a book.

They then plan to apply those changes to all stores nationwide within the next three years for an undisclosed sum.
