The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has sent shockwaves today with a severe weather warning for 47 provinces, including bustling Bangkok. Expect a drenching, as heavy rain is set to swamp 70% of these areas. Be on high alert for flash floods, forest runoff, and landslides.
The weather forecast indicates thunderstorms and heavy rain in parts of the north and upper northeastern regions. Residents in these areas, especially those living near mountain slopes, waterways, and low-lying regions, are advised to be cautious due to the potential for flooding and landslides.
This weather pattern is attributed to a moderate monsoon trough passing through upper Myanmar and northern Thailand, connecting to a low-pressure cell over upper Laos.
Additionally, a moderate southwest monsoon is affecting the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand. Seafarers are advised to exercise caution, as waves in the upper Andaman Sea can reach heights of approximately 2 metres, increasing to over 2 metres during thunderstorms.
For the northern region, thunderstorms are expected in 70% of the area, with heavy rainfall in Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, Uttaradit, Phitsanulok, Phetchabun, and Tak.
