THE Transportation Security Administration has urged flyers to keep two common holiday items at home before heading to the airports this week.
Airlines are expecting a historic number of people to travel for Independence Day this weekend, so it’s crucial to be prepared before walking through security checkpoints.

Everyone knows that July 4 means barbecuing in the backyard and celebrating freedom with a massive fireworks show.
But some flyers may not be aware that certain Independence Day essentials could cause chaos at TSA security checkpoints.
On Thursday, the administration issued an urgent reminder to check for banned items before heading to the airport for the holidays.
That’s because fireworks and sparklers aren’t allowed on any flights.
In fact, the explosive displays aren’t even permitted to go in checked bags, much less carry-ons or personal items, the administration warned.
“Fireworks, sparklers, and anything that screams ‘bad idea’ are a no-go,” the TSA wrote on a Facebook post.
“Pack snacks, not sparks.”
Officials insisted that even “one little sparkler for the kids” would be removed from bags before a traveler would be allowed to fly.
“Ready to spark some family fun this summer? Let’s make sure the only fires flying are at the cookout, not in your bags,” wrote the administration.
Every second counts at security checkpoints when you’re running late for flights, so it’s key to remove all banned items before coming to the airport.
If the TSA locates a firework or sparkler, flyers will be pulled out of line and have to wait for their bags to be searched before the contraband is thrown out.
TSA’s 3-1-1 rule
The Transportation Security Administration regulates the amount of liquids, aerosols, and gels that flyers can bring through airport security with the 3-1-1 liquids rule.
The 3-1-1 rule consists of the following:
Each container of liquid has to be 3.4 ounces or less.
All liquids have to fit in one clear, quart-sized, resealable bag.
Finally, passengers can only bring one bag of liquids each.
FLY SAFE
With 18 million people expected to fly this weekend for holiday celebrations, you can’t be too prepared.
Before the flights take off, the TSA issued a clear travel warning to pack smart and brace for delays as the agency prepares for the surge.
They asked passengers to be patient, as a record 3.1 million people hit security checkpoints on June 22 – making it the busiest day in history.
This weekend, travel officials are expecting at least 2.9 million people to be screened on Sunday alone.
“We are deploying technologies and procedures to improve security and enhance the passenger experience, including for families,” said TSA Acting Administrator Ha Nguyen McNeill.
“We ask travelers to pack their patience, especially during peak travel days, as we work to provide maximum hospitality to our customers.”
TSA urged people to check the agency website and review all of its banned items.
The travel tips come right as the TSA clarified a rule on a popular snack.
Plus, the agency warned against packing a common sports item.
