Bridgewater made a long plea on Facebook to Northwestern fans to help cover expenses not covered by the school through donations.
The former first-round pick said that he personally spent $14,000 last year on the Bulls, whether it was for Uber rides ($700 per week), athletic recovery services (1,300/week), and pre-game meals ($2,200/week), among other expenses.
“So hear me out, THIS ISNT A CRY OUT FOR HELP but more so a coach seeking donations,” Bridgewater wrote in the message.
“. …The job will get done one way or another, but to those of you considering donating, I THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.”
Bridgewater added that the expenses he pays for are strictly on his own and aren’t required by the rule makers or the school.
He concluded by revealing that the donations will go to the Be The Bridge Foundation.
Bridgewater spent nine seasons in the NFL with numerous teams but left the league in 2024 to coach his old high school football team.
He guided the squad to their first state title since 2019.
The Bulls went 12-2 and were ranked No. 6 in Florida.
After the high school season, Bridgewater returned to the NFL and signed with the Detroit Lions late in the season for their playoff run.
Bridgewater had played for the Lions the season before in 2023.
He backed up quarterback Jared Goff and appeared briefly in the team’s 45-31 loss to the Washington Commanders in the Divisional Round of the 2024-25 playoffs.
Bridgewater has returned to coach Northwestern and is looking for more help in the expense department.
He was a first-round pick by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2014 NFL Draft.

Bridgewater led the Vikings to a playoff appearance and earned a Pro Bowl nod in 2015.
Unfortunately, he suffered a brutal torn ACL before the 2016 season and needed 18 months of rehab.
Bridgewater returned in 2017 for the Vikings and joined four different teams before signing a one-year, $10 million deal with the Miami Dolphins for the 2022 campaign.
It’s unknown whether Bridgewater will return to the NFL following his second year of coaching high school football.
