SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – We are learning more about an assault turned murder case in Sioux Falls. 44-year-old Shawn Roubideaux is charged with second-degree murder after a man he allegedly assaulted died in the hospital.
What started as a call for an intoxicated person early Thursday morning led to three arrests with one of the suspects facing a possible sentence of life behind bars.
According to court documents, when police arrived at this central Sioux Falls townhome they found 36-year-old Daniel Marshall laying unresponsive on the floor with blood on him and a swollen face.
Also inside was Shawn Roubideaux, Alesia BlackBonnet and Saige Quinn. Police also spoke with two other witnesses who recall Roubideaux and BlackBonnet fighting with the victim.
Inside the home, police also found BlackBonnet’s cell phone. According to court documents, detectives found a video on the phone that was over four minutes long and shows the victim bleeding heavily from his face. The video then pans to Roubideaux who points to the victim and says ‘I did that’. It then pans to Quinn who is seen holding a trash can and a mop.
In an interview with police, Roubideaux allegedly denied ever assaulting the victim, even saying that when he left the house to buy drugs the victim was fine but when he returned the victim was on the floor. Police also reviewed Roubideaux’s jail calls.
In the calls, Roubideaux allegedly told an unknown female ‘I’m going back to prison for the rest of my life. The person I beat up is about to die’. When the woman asks who he beat up, he responds with Daniel Marshall.
Roubideaux’s bond has been set at one million dollars cash. He is also still facing charges from another assault case that dates back to December.
Alesia BlackBonnet is facing one count of aggravated assault and her bond is set at $500,000. Saige Quinn is facing one count of accessory to a felony and has a bond of $100,000.
