“I just got to my car,” TikToker Jazmyn Makenna said in the clip. “How am I supposed to get out of this?”
Makenna (@mazmynjakenna)’s video shows another vehicle parked tightly behind her, touching her bumper.
Meanwhile, another car had been parked directly in front of her car, leaving no space for Makenna to maneuver.
“What actually is wrong with people?” she asked. “What do I do? I have a little bit of room in the front.”
Makenna even considered confronting the driver in writing.
“Should I write a mean, nasty letter? Their car is literally touching my car,” she added.
Her clip quickly racked up over 4.2 million views and over 400,000 likes as of this writing.
In the comments, TikTok users didn’t hold back with their suggestions.
“Have it towed. They blocked you in,” wrote one, while another advised, “I’d write the nastiest letter known to mankind, personally.”
“I would wait there all day until they get back,” one person wrote.
“I’m not leaving a letter but only because I’m reversing into it,” wrote another.
Others had more official advice, like calling the police or her city’s non-emergency line.
“I’d call the non-emergency line since the vehicles are physically touching,” one user commented.
“They technically hit your car. Let the cops find them or have it towed.”
Commenters also suggested she write down the drivers’ license plates because, since they were touching her car it technically counts as getting hit.
A few viewers shared their own passive-aggressive tactics.
“This happened to me once,” one said.
“I wrote a letter apologizing for the massive dent in their car and [said] they should really learn to park better.”
They added, “I waited a few spaces up and watched them do laps around their car looking for the dent. Haha.”
WHAT DOES THE LAW SAY?
Experts say blocking someone in like this could qualify as a hit-and-run if the vehicles are making contact, Motor1 reported.
Parking author and columnist David LaBua has written about this type of situation.
He has advised keeping a cool head, even when the urge to lash out feels strong.
“If it takes you an extra two minutes to make 20 tiny back and forth motions in order to get out, as inconvenient as it is, it is the right thing to do,” he wrote.
He suggested asking passersby or a friend for help spotting if there’s a tight squeeze.
If that doesn’t work, LaBua says you should call local authorities.
In cities like New York, Philadelphia, and Houston, cars parked illegally near fire hydrants or with outstanding tickets can be towed by local authorities
LaBua also noted police may get involved if there’s visible damage and the incident qualifies as vehicle contact.
