Luckily, two major retailers, Walmart and Target, have come to rescue with affordable pencil cases – but there is a clear winner.
Earlier this summer, Target sent shoppers into a frenzy after launching clear pencil cases – and now Walmart has followed suit.
While Target’s Hard Sided Zipper Pencil Case retails for $3.99, Walmart’s Pen+Gear Clear Zipper Case is currently going for $3.97 – and they’re near identical.
Although at first, the savings may not seem like a huge thing, we all know that every little counts – and you’ll save more in the long run.
What’s more, not only is Target’s pencil case more affordable – especially if you have several kids needing one – but shoppers also have a bigger variety to choose from.
The popular supermarket offers the clear pencil case with four different zip designs – white, black, purple and blue, the latter two being perfect for those summer vibes.
The school must-have measures at 5.50 x 8.67 x 1.57 inches and it’s the ideal size for a tote bag or a backpack.
Whatever your kid needs, whether it’s colored pencils, binder clips or erasers, will be easily spotted thanks to the clear material.
The pencil case can also be used to store other essentials or small bits around the house – which can come in extra handy in the kitchen or your home office.
If you need more convincing to plan a trip to the local Walmart pronto, the dozens of rave reviews online are sure to do the job.
On Walmart’s website, the bargain find boasts an impressive 4.5-star rating.
One delighted customer said: ”These are so fun! there are so many possibilities to use them. snacks, school supplies, toys, toiletries, i could go on forever!
”I love that there are different options of colors for zippers!”
What is Walmart’s Scan and Go?

Walmart’s Scan and Go was made to save time for shoppers
Walmart’s Scan and Go system was created to help customers scan items as they shop, pay, and leave without waiting in long checkout lines.
The retailer describes the new system to be done in a few easy steps:
- Customers first need to have the Walmart app downloaded on their phones with their location access enabled.
- On the Store Mode landing page, shoppers must click the Scan and Go option.
- Customers can scan each item and place them in their carts as they shop.
- At the end, they’ll be prompted to view the cart to make sure the quantity on the app matches the ones in their carts.
- Shoppers will press “Check Out” and head to a self-checkout kiosk.
- They’ll be prompted to scan the provided QR code at the register and confirm their payment method.
- Once the transaction is complete, shoppers can leave the store without worry.
Another shopper who gave the pencil case the maximum of five stars wrote: ”The case definitely did what it needed to do. It held my pens and markers and high lighters easily.
”It held up when transporting in my bag. Flat enough to easily fit in a smaller bag but has enough space for a good bit of stuff.”
A third chimed in: ”Pen Gear zipper cases are a practical and affordable choice for organizing anything. I like to use this one for snacks as I can clearly see what I have.
”They would be great for any office/school supplies as well. Their variety in design and color ensures there’s an option to suit different tastes and needs.
”I feel like it is sturdy and has a reliable zipper, noting that it withstands daily use without issues.”
However, there were also a few people who weren’t fully satisfied with their purchase.
One critic warned: ”It’s easily squished/bent and leaves marks where that happens on the clear part. Not very sturdy unfortunately.”
