Love pours in for MLB national anthem singer in ‘instant upgrade’ from 2024 – ‘better than last year’s atrocity’

FANS have made their opinion clear over the choice for the Major League Baseball national anthem singer.

This year, Heather Headley was drafted in to sing the song at the Home Run Derby.

And fans have given a glowing review to the 50-year-old.

Reacting to footage of the Trinidadian-born American singer, songwriter, singing the anthem on social media, one fan said: “Beautiful. And a major upgrade from last year.”

A second said: “Better than last year’s atrocity.”

Another said: “Way better than last year.”

A fourth added: “Better than last year!”

Fans’ scorn over last year stems from the performance of singer Ingrid Andress.

But as the 33-year-old sang the anthem, she seemed to be badly out of tune.

And the country star owned up to being wasted during her performance after her rendition was widespread over social media.

In a post after the act, she said: “I’m not gonna bulls*** y’all, I was drunk last night.”

Andress also admitted that she would be checking herself into a rehabilitation facility to receive help.

She added: “That was not me last night.

“I apologize to MLB, all the fans, and this country that I love so much for that rendition.”

She added that she’d let her followers know “how rehab is,” joking that she hears “it’s super fun.”

Andress was previously nominated for a Best New Artist Grammy Award in 2021.

The Home Run Derby itself was won by Cal Raleigh.

The Seattle Mariners catcher and home run leader defeated Tampa Bay Rays‘ Junior Caminero in the final round to claim the prize.

He also took down Brent Rooker and Oneil Cruz en route to the final.

The score was 18-15, though this is the first time a catcher has won the Home Run Derby.

It now also means every position has seen a Home Run Derby champion crowned.
