Beloved grocery chain thanks shoppers for ‘being part of the journey’ as it prepares to close stores across US

Homeland chiefs are preparing to shutter four stores across Oklahoma, and one in Georgia.

One of the locations is in Jay, Oklahoma – located around 190 miles from Oklahoma City.

Bosses admitted the decision to shut the store wasn’t easy.

“It comes with heavy hearts,” they said in a note shared on Facebook.

“For years, you have welcomed us into your lives and allowed us to serve this community we care about so deeply.”

The brand thanked shoppers for kindness and loyalty shown over the years.

Fans are in a state of mourning that the Homeland store is to close.

“It is a sad time for our community!” Mary McQuoid, a local resident, said.

“Homeland provided quality service, food and friendliness. Just about everyone who shopped there knew the customers. They all will be deeply missed!”

Corey Blackfox, another fan, labeled the decision to close the store “crazy.”

Shoppers thanked the brand for investing in the local community.

But, it will mean shoppers based in Jay will have to venture 40 miles away to Pryor in order to shop at Homeland, as reported by The Oklahoman.

The Homeland store in St Pauls Valley, also in Oklahoma, is to close.

There are 34 Homeland stores in Oklahoma.

A United Supermarkets and Discount Foods location in Kingfisher and Ponca City will also be closing down.

Homeland chiefs said the decision to close stores was taken in the “best interests” of the company.

The Homeland-owned stores set to close

HOMELAND chiefs have confirmed four stores in Oklahoma, and one of its supermarkets they run in Georgia, are to close. The impacted locations are:

Homeland – 505 S Chickasaw St Pauls Valley, Oklahoma 73075
Homeland – 1629 S Main St Jay, Oklahoma 74346
United Supermarkets – 1215 S Main St, Kingfisher, Oklahoma 73750
Discount Foods – 2405 N 14th St. Ponca City, Oklahoma 74601
Piggly Wiggly – 123 N Main St Gordon, Georgia 31031

The brand also owns a handful of Piggly Wiggly stores. One of which is closing in Gordon, Georgia.

Execs have confirmed that the store will close on August 16.

It means shoppers will have to travel around 20 miles to other Piggly Wiggly stores, as reported by the ABC affiliate WGXA-TV.

Bosses admitted the grocery outlet was underperforming so the decision was taken to close it.

Locals in the area have expressed concern now that the news surrounding the closure has surfaced.

“It’s going to affect the community badly,” Vashon Carswell told WGXA-TV.

The Gordon Piggly Wiggly is not the only one of the brand’s stores set to close.

The U.S. Sun reported how another Piggly Wiggly in Wautoma, Wisconsin, is to close after Labor Day.
