ANDY Reid will have another star player’s future to worry about after the Kansas City Chiefs made a decision with offensive lineman Trey Smith.
The Chiefs agreed to a deal with Smith just hours before Tuesday’s franchise-tag deadline.

The Chiefs extend the 26-year-old Smith’s contract for four years.
The 2024 Pro Bowler’s new deal is worth $90 million with $70 million guaranteed.
The contract made Smith the highest-paid guard in NFL history.
With the Chiefs finally locking in Smith, the franchise will have its eyes on a two-time Super Bowl winner’s future.
Reid and the Chiefs will look to extend 2022 first-round pick cornerback Trent McDuffie, per ESPN.
“Based on Sauce Gardner’s deal today, the Chiefs will now shift their focus to All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie,” ESPN’s Nate Taylor said on Tuesday’s edition of NFL Live.
Taylor referenced star cornerback Sauce Gardner’s four-year, $120 million extension with the New York Jets, the biggest in NFL history.
Since McDuffie joined the Chiefs, the Washington product has been a productive full-time starter.
McDuffie has played in 43 regular-season games and posted 183 total tackles, seven forced fumbles, and 27 passes defended.
He earned a First-Team All-Pro nod in 2023 and a Second-Team All-Pro nod last season.
McDuffie has helped the Chiefs reach three consecutive Super Bowls and win two of them.
The 26-year-old is under contract through the 2026 season.
The fifth-year option will pay McDuffie $13.3 million.
This season, he is set to earn $2.6 million in base salary.

It would make sense for the Chiefs to lock down McDuffie sooner rather than later.
McDuffie has a market value of three years worth $73 million, per Spotrac.
That means he would have an average annual salary of $24.3 million.
Another stellar season would increase that predicted number.

McDuffie recorded 59 total tackles, one forced fumble, and 13 passes defended last season[/caption]
The Chiefs can’t risk the team’s No. 1 corner leaving in free agency in the future.
Kansas City will begin training camp on July 21 as the team prepares for the upcoming campaign.
