TREVOR Bauer is close to putting his name in the record books — just probably not in a way he’s hoping for.
Bauer is on pace to make history in NPB (Nippon Professional Baseball) as one of the worst pitchers ever.

After winning the MLB Cy Young Award in 2020 with the Cincinnati Reds, Bauer signed a massive contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
However, his career soon spiraled due to a series of controversies.
Bauer was handed a hefty suspension by the MLB commissioner and eventually decided to continue playing baseball overseas.
In 2023, Bauer signed to pitch for the Yokohama Baystars in Japan.
His first year was great, as he pitched to a 2.76 ERA with 10 wins and four losses.
Bauer left Japan to pitch in Mexico, where he again had a great season.
He pitched to a 2.48 ERA with the Diablos Rojos del Mexico of the Mexican Baseball League.
Bauer went an impressive 10-0 in 14 starts that season.
He made the All-Star team that year and even won the league’s version of the Cy Young award.
The Diablos Rojos won the league championship with Bauer in 2024.
Despite that strong season, Bauer returned to Japan this year to pitch with the Baystars, looking to continue his momentum.
However, things went the exact opposite way he was probably hoping.
In a league that is dominated by pitching, Bauer owns the worst ERA in all of NBP.
His 4.17 ERA is 0.20 points worse than the next worst in the league.
According to Gaijin Baseball, Bauer currently has a 142 ERA-.

The worst ERA- ever recorded by a foreign pitcher in NBA belonged to Bob Gibson in 1988.
Bauer was sent down to the Baystar’s minor league to try figuring out his struggles.
He returned on Wednesday and didn’t seem to have his best stuff, surrendering six hits, and four earned runs in six innings pitched.
Bauer has continually expressed his interest in returning to MLB action, but no team has considered bringing him back to the league.
He is cleared to play and has no suspension attached to his name, but it is likely the case that Bauers MLB career is over.
