Driver’s Jeep vanished in 15 seconds but sneaky hidden feature on her phone stopped culprit almost as quickly

ONE CLEVER driver was able to use a sneaky feature on her phone to stop a thief from stealing her car.

The woman and her husband realised within 15 seconds that their Jeep had been stolen, but were able to stop the thief almost immediately.

Brandon Parenti and his wife were sleeping in their home in Cheshire, Connecticut, when they heard their Jeep Wagoneer’s engine.

The pair had returned from a movie that evening and had slept into the early hours of Monday morning when the shocking robbery began.

Both Brandon and his wife heard the car’s engine at 2am.

Ring camera video footage revealed two suspects trying to enter the car by using the passenger door handles, which eventually allowed them to open the Wagoneer’s door.

Brandon confirmed that he and his wife had used the car that day and had made the mistake of leaving his keys inside the vehicle

However, he vowed to stop the thieves.

Using an app on her phone, his wife was able to give the police real time location updates on the Jeep’s whereabouts.

Then, she decided to use the app to cause chaos in the car.

Brandon said: “My wife decided to start hitting all the buttons on the app.

“She was honking the horn, flashing the lights, doing a panic feature in her application for the Wagoneer.”

The suspects were forced to bring the vehicle to a stop, though police easily managed to track the car down using license plate readers equipped on cameras.

However, the thieves then turned their anger on the vehicle

Brandon said: “And then, they were tearing out all the electronics and throwing it down the embankment on 691.

“Ripped out both car seats. I have two and a half year old kids. They ripped out all of their toys and books and threw it down the side of the highway.”

Now, as he begins dealing with insurance claims and car rental companies, Brandon is concerned that his car will be considered to be too damaged – due to the damage caused by the thieves to its electrical equipment.

He has warned other drivers, whose vehicles are at risk of being stolen, to install the same app that his wife used on her phone.

Brandon said: “If you have the technology in your car or phone, definitely subscribe to it.

“I know it’s annoying paying for it, but that’s the reason why I think we got the car back so quickly.”
