UC Berkeley Professor Killed in Greece: 5 People, Including Ex-Wife, Charged

A well-respected UC Berkeley professor, Przemyslaw Jeziorski, was shot and killed earlier this month while visiting Greece. He had traveled there to attend a custody hearing for his two young children. Now, Greek police say five people — including his ex-wife — have been arrested in connection with his death.

A Father Visiting His Children

Jeziorski, 43, was a professor at the Haas School of Business. He lived in California but flew to Athens to see his 10-year-old twins and go to court to settle a custody issue. On July 4, he was walking near his ex-wife’s home when a masked man came up and shot him multiple times, including in the chest and back. He died at the scene.

Who Was Arrested?

Police quickly started an investigation and arrested five people. Those charged include:

  • His 43-year-old ex-wife, who police believe helped plan the murder

  • Her 35-year-old boyfriend, who has admitted to pulling the trigger

  • Three other men who are accused of helping the shooter

The suspects were brought to court on July 17 in Athens. They are expected to return for more hearings next week. The ex-wife is denying the charges, saying she had nothing to do with the crime.

Grieving Family and Friends

Jeziorski’s family is devastated. His brother said he was a loving father who flew across the world to be there for his kids. His children, who are both American and Polish citizens, are now in the care of child welfare services in Greece.

Back at UC Berkeley, his students and coworkers are heartbroken. Colleagues described him as a smart, kind, and passionate teacher who cared deeply about his work and family.

What Happens Next

The investigation in Greece is still ongoing. Authorities are looking at security camera footage and other evidence to understand exactly how the murder was planned.

This tragedy has shocked many people, both in Greece and in the U.S. A man who came simply to see his children was killed in what police believe was a carefully planned attack. His family is now left mourning a life cut short — one full of promise, dedication, and love for his kids.
