A KANSAS City Chiefs coach has revealed some of the growing pains that Patrick Mahomes went through early in his career.
While many fans look at Mahomes as the future GOAT, at one point he was just a rookie looking to prove himself.

Mahomes was drafted with the No. 10 overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs.
While he was a highly-touted quarterback prospect, he still had plenty to learn.
“He was yelling his first play into the huddle,” Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy said via ESPN.
“The defense could hear the play. We had to tell him to chill out.”
Of course, Mahomes had no issue getting through those growing pains and has turned into the best quarterback in the league.
He has gone to five Super Bowls in his seven years as a starter, winning three in the process.
Running back Kareem Hunt shared just how much Mahomes has grown since his rookie season.
“Just how much he knows the system now and just seeing how he’s able to recognize defenses and call the plays on the fly if he needs to,” Hunt told ESPN.
“He’s grown a lot in that aspect.”
Mahomes believes that his growth has come from better understanding himself.
“Obviously I probably bounced back a little bit quicker when I was younger but at the same time, I have a better plan and a better standard that I hold myself to on a day-to-day basis so I can be ready for every single practice,” he said.
While Mahomes is still recognized as the best quarterback in the NFL, he had the worst season of his career in 2024.
Mahomes posted career lows in yards and touchdowns with 3,928 and 26 respectively.
It was the first time since Mahomes became a starter that he wasn’t named a Pro Bowler.

The Chiefs still made it to the Super Bowl last season, but lost to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Still, the Chiefs are one of the favorites to return to the big game.
That will hinge on the success of Travis Kelce and Mahomes in what is Kelce’s final season.
The Chiefs start training camp on Monday at Missouri Western State University.
