Storm Center PM Update: Scattered Storm Chances Continue

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Unsettled weather has returned to KELOLAND today as a low pressure system moved into South Dakota. Rain and thunderstorms pushed eastward during the morning and have diminished this afternoon. That won’t be the last for activity and we will want to keep an eye on the sky this evening in eastern KELOLAND. There is a slight risk for severe weather in this area as storms that do fire up are capable large hail, damaging winds, and an isolated tornado.

Models show initial development along a front occurring early this evening along and east of I-29. These storms will track to the southeast and into southwestern Minnesota.

The cap will continue to erode going into tonight and more thunderstorms look to form along and south of I-90. With many outdoor activities going on in the Sioux Falls area tonight, you will want to be weather aware.

The main line of storms will move into northwest Iowa and Nebraska during the early morning hours. Lows will fall into the 50s and 60s with light winds turning to the north.

Tomorrow could be another active day with lingering showers and thunderstorms in the morning, then more convective development during the evening. The best opportunity for thunderstorms will be in western South Dakota and southeastern KELOLAND. Highs will still stay below average in the 70s and 80s.

After some relief from the heat, it will return going into the start of next week. Highs in the 90s are in store with more chances for scattered showers and thunderstorms.
