O’Neal and Olivier triumphant at Huset’s Speedway during Silver Dollar Nationals

BRANDON, S.D. (Inside Line Promotions) – Hudson O’Neal and Zach Olivier pocketed special wins at Huset’s Speedway on Saturday during Kwik Star Night, which wrapped up the 15th annual Silver Dollar Nationals presented by MyRacePass.

O’Neal’s triumph came after a dominating performance during the $75,000-to-win Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series main event, which was called on Lap 68 because of rain. He became the 11th different event champion and joined his father, Don O’Neal – the inaugural event champion in 2011 – on the prestigious winner’s list.

“Unbelievable,” Hudson O’Neal beamed on a wet frontstretch. “To be a race car driver, something you always dream of is being in position to win big races. It’s so cool to be standing up here at Huset’s Speedway, to be able to call myself a Silver Dollar Nationals winner. It’s not the necessary way we wanted to win it, but we’ll take the rain.”

O’Neal started on the pole of the main event scheduled for 80 laps and he led the distance before Mother Nature intervened. It was his fourth Series win this season, ranking fourth best.

Six cautions slowed the race with the final stoppage occurring after wet weather invaded the dirt oval. The race was stopped with the drivers being sent to the infield for several minutes before officials deemed the race officially complete.

“I don’t know if we went back green if anything would have changed there,” said Brandon Sheppard, who finished second for the second night in a row. “Hudson was real good. You can momentum so good here it makes it hard to pass the leader for sure. Congrats to him and congrats to Bobby (Pierce). It was a solid weekend for us. We definitely wanted to win, but all in all it was a good weekend.”

Bobby Pierce ran third, marking his sixth podium performance in his last seven races at the track.

“Hudson ran a really good race,” he said. “Congrats to him. Congrats to Brandon. I don’t know if 13 laps would have done anything.”

Jonathan Davenport placed fourth and Ricky Thornton Jr. rounded out the top five.

O’Neal and Garrett Alberson were quickest during their qualifying sessions before the heat races were won by O’Neal, Sheppard, Alberson and Davenport. Ethan Dotson and Spencer Hughes were the B Main winners.

Olivier became the seventh different driver in eight Nordstrom’s Automotive Late Model Street Stocks main events this season to reach Sea Foam Victory Lane.

“This is one of our favorite events of the whole year and the track prep is great,” he said. “I figured if the track prep was on point tonight we’d have a chance and we made the most of it.”

Tracy Halouska led for the first nine laps before Olivier used the top groove in turns three and four to make the race-winning pass on Lap 10. A couple of late cautions bunched the field together, but Olivier was strong to win by 0.785 seconds.

Garet DeBoer capitalized on a late-race pass to score the runner-up result with Halouska placing third. J.J. Zebell finished fourth and Nick Janssen was fifth.

The heat races were won by Olivier, DeBoer and Craig Hanisch.

The next event at Huset’s Speedway is on July 27 during Nordstrom’s Automotive Night featuring the Cressman Sanitation 410 Outlaw Sprint Cars, the Heser Auto & Detailing RaceSaver Sprint Car Series and the Nordstrom’s Automotive Late Model Street Stocks.
