Car owners fumed over the eye-rolling change that’s set to come into effect in just weeks.

On May 29, Honda announced it will be discontinuing a popular subscription-based service for its Acura models.
Social media users blasted the discontinuation of Honda’s AcuraLink services, which allow drivers to interact with vehicles remotely using their phones.
“This is honestly really annoying,” one Reddit user wrote with a screenshot of the discontinuation notice attached.
“This just seems entirely arbitrary.
“It’s especially annoying because the emergency call and stolen vehicle locator will be discontinued.”
Acura models from 2014 to 2022 will no longer have access to the subscription features.
The deactivation of the AcuraLink subscription service means that subscribers will no longer have access to roadside assistance, maintenance reminders, and automatic collision notifications.
Other services that will be revoked include remote door lock/unlock, personal concierge services, and a security alarm alert.
The discontinuation will affect Basic, Standard, Connect, and Premium Honda AcuraLink subscribers.
Subscribers will stop being charged for their subscription on June 18, but the features will last until July 21.
Customers will also no longer have access to connect to the AcuraLink mobile app.
Those with free trial subscriptions will not have the option to upgrade to membership and all free trial services will also be cut off on July 21.
Customers with subscriptions set to expire after July 21 will receive a prorated refund for the unused portion of their services.
They can expect their refunds on August 4.
The major subscription changes have lifelong Acura drivers questioning if they want to continue to drive Honda cars.
“I’m 41 and recently realized I’ve only owned Hondas or Acuras since I was 16,” one Reddit user commented.
“I only buy Hondas and Acuras for a reason – I can keep them long term with low maintenance. If I can’t keep the car and its features long term, what’s the point?
“If this is the new norm, I’m not sure my lifelong loyalty will continue.”
Honda statement
As of July 21, 2025, AcuraLink services for certain Acura models will become inactive. This includes the ability of these vehicles to connect to the AcuraLink mobile app. While only a limited number of customers currently in a paid subscription are affected by this change, we apologize for the inconvenience and will provide them a pro-rated refund for any unused portion of their subscription.
This is the full list of vehicles impacted:
2014 – 2020 Acura RLX
2015 – 2020 Acura TLX
2016 – 2022 Acura ILX
2014 – 2020 Acura MDX
2016 – 2018 Acura RDX
2017 – 2022 Acura NSX
The commenter claimed that Honda is treating three-year-old models like they’re “obsolete.”
“But if Acura is going to treat 3-year-old models like they’re obsolete and stop supporting key features like AcuraLink, then what’s the point,” the commenter followed up.
“ It completely undercuts the value proposition for people like me who buy into the brand for the long haul.
“If I wanted a car that only lasts a few years before functionality drops off, I’d lease something flashier and cheaper.”
