A LITTLE-KNOWN rule has left NFL fans gobsmacked.
There is a way for teams to score just ONE POINT during the game.

One point is scored when what otherwise would be a safety happens during a conversion attempt.
And either team — the team attempting the conversion or the team defending it — could end up surrendering one point on the play.
The little-known one-point conversion safety arrived in the rulebook in 2015.
That year, the NFL adopted the college rule that awards two points to the team that gets the ball while defending a one- or two-point conversion try and takes it all the way to the other end zone.
A one-point conversion safety has yet to happen in an NFL game.
The obscure law has resurfaced after the Atlanta Falcons posted a cheeky picture on X.
It showed Falcons star Ray-Ray McCloud III wearing is No. 34 jersey next to Darnell Mooney’s No.1, with the caption “34 & 3 ” – as if to mimic a season record.
Many then fans joked that a 34-1 scoreline would be impossible, before others quickly told them what’s what.
One fan wrote: “How is this a thing?”
While another said: “But we’ve never seen it in football!”
A third added: “What the hell. I didn’t know this.”
A fourth joked: “If anyone can blow at 34-1 lead, it’s the Falcons.”
The Georgia-based team finished the 2024 season with an 8-9 record and a second-place finish in the NFC South.
They only had five draft picks, but they bolstered their defense in Round 1 with linebacker Jalon Walker at No. 15, then traded with the Rams to land James Pearce Jr. at No. 26.
