NWS: Watertown tornado traveled 4 miles

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The tornado that touched down in Henry Sunday traveled nearly four miles, a new report from the National Weather Service said.

The path the storm traveled first started at in an open field between 168th and 169th
Street, just west of 442nd Avenue, near a farm.

KELOLAND viewers sent photos of the funnel.

According to the NWS, less than 10 minutes later the tornado went through the farm, destroying a house and several buildings, along with many trees.

“The tornado would begin to track south, moving along fields and pasture land and would cross 169th Street where corn was flattened on both sides of the road. The tornado continued south and crossed both 170th and 171st Streets before roping out just north of 172nd Street,” the report said.

The tornado was on the ground for about 21 minutes. The storm still remains under investigation. The NWS reported no deaths or injuries.
