Dollar Tree takes aim at CVS after 4 products are over $5 cheaper – but there’s a certain item to avoid

IF you’re looking for a bargain, sometimes it’s best to head straight to the store with the word “dollar” right in the name.

CVS might be your usual go-to, but for certain deals, Dollar Tree is the way to go – especially when it comes to four items in particular.

Each product sold at Dollar Tree is almost exclusively $5 less expensive than its competitor, the latter of which has cut 270 stores within the past year.

The items are usual home necessities, ranging from laundry detergent to multipurpose lighters, according to BestLife.

But even with these bargains, there’s one that every customer should avoid at all costs: batteries.

There’s a good reason why — but first, let’s get to the good stuff.

1. CANDLE LIGHTERS

Whether it’s to light a scented candle for some aromatic self-care or to make sure you have something on hand for a birthday cake, Dollar Tree’s candle lighters are the way to go.

At CVS, 12-in multipurpose lighters tend to ring up at $6.99, but compared to its rival discounter, the difference in price point is surprising.

One 12-in butane lighter at Dollar Tree costs a mere $1.29, with a $5.74 price difference.

There is one caveat, as BestLife points out: The CVS version has a bendable wand, while the Dollar Tree model does not.

But if price points are your priority, Dollar Tree is the way to go.

2. LAUNDRY DETERGENT

Carrying a 2.5-liter container or laundry detergent to the car or on the train is always a pain, but lightweight detergent pods make it a lot easier.

And what makes it even better is when those pods cost a lot, lot less at your local Dollar Tree.

Here’s some more Dollar Tree inside info for savvy shoppers.

A ton of beauty items are way cheaper at Dollar Tree than Target or Walmart, and they’re exactly the same products.

Here are five essential Halloween items you can buy at Dollar Tree right now.

For the smartest shopping at Dollar Tree, we’ve decoded what that red dot means.

At CVS, a bag of 42-pods can hit your wallet at as much as $14.99 or more, whereas a typical bag of Arm and Hammer Plus OxiClean 5-in-1 pods can save you almost $10, with a clean $5 price point.

3. PAPER TOWELS

As a brand, Bounty paper towels might be known as “the quicker picker upper,” but you’ll want to move even faster to snatch them up at Dollar Tree, where an 82-sheet roll costs a mere $3.

To be fair, a two-roll package of the same product at CVS comes in at about $8.69, so while there’s over a $5 price difference, you’ll still be minus a roll at Dollar Tree.

Even so, buying two at Dollar Tree still leaves you with a pretty sizable discount at roughly $6.

4. SPONGES

CVS typically sells a three-pack set of no-scratch Scotch Brite sponges for $4.19, while Dollar Tree sells a two-pack version of another highly competitive brand, Brillo, for $1.50.

Although the price difference between the two doesn’t appear to be a Dollar Tree $5 discount at first glance, technically, each Brillo sponge costs only 75 cents, as BestLife points out.

When you think about it that way, each CVS sponge costs about $1.40 – nearly double the price for the Dollar Tree variety.

5. BATTERIES

Lastly, you should avoid buying batteries at Dollar Tree.

While they may appear cheaper, there is a good reason to avoid them: they simply don’t last as long.

Even if Dollar Tree batteries are listed as “heavy duty,” they’re most likely made out of a different material than well-known brands like Duracell and Energizer.
