SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The 86th annual Sioux Empire Fair is in full swing, and so far, fairgoers have been able to avoid the typical hot and humid August weather.
It has been a beautiful start to the Sioux Empire Fair.
“It’s really nice out. I’m super excited for today,” fairgoer Ryker Kannenberg said.
“I couldn’t ask for better. It’s a nice, mildly sunny day. It’s not too hot, so it’s a good day to be out here,” fairgoer Neal Olson said.
Fair president and CEO Scott Wick says he has seen a steady crowd so far.
“We’re tracking on par for last year’s attendance, and the carnival did very well yesterday. Numbers were up over last year for a full day on Saturday,” Wick said.
While there was trash to clean up, Wick says it was a smooth transition going from Rock the Country to the fair.
“They got it all cleaned up. The guys did some mowing before the fair started, so it was very easy. Rock the Country was very easy to work with. Those guys did a good job,” Wick said.
As for security, so far, people have been behaving themselves.
“We haven’t had any issues. The curfew has been very well received. We continue to get compliments every year about that. The teenagers, the young folks, have been absolutely phenomenal these first few days. I anticipate that’ll continue on,” Wick said.
You have until Saturday to enjoy everything the fair has to offer, and Wick expects the fun to continue.
“We anticipate we’ll end strong. We’ve got really good concerts lined up with our format of free shows with paid fair admission,” Wick said.
“Highly recommend this place. It’s really nice, and it’s fun, especially for families,” fairgoer Alaric Borelli said.
And there’s enough fun to go around for everyone.
