A look at Lennox’s Fourth of July parade

LENNOX, S.D. (KELO) — People across the country are gathering to mark the Fourth of July. For over 40 years community members in Lennox and towns nearby gather on the fourth for its annual parade down main street.
Gretchyn and Odyn DeBerg came from Worthing and are no strangers to the celebration.

“I love getting to have all the candy that they throw out,” Odyn DeBerg said.

“I like to see the horses, save the best for last they always say,” Gretchyn DeBerg said.

The mayor of Lennox, Danny Fergen, says each year the parade seems to grow as people enjoy the small town feel.

“You just come and show up, and it’s a lot of fun. There’s activities in the park, there’s vendors. We get a lot of food trucks that show up. And there’s activities at the bandshell this afternoon too. So just a lot of fun,” Fergen said.

Bret Wynja, with the Lennox Commercial Club who organize the festivities says this year’s parade saw a variety of floats.
“We’ve got the SuFuDu drum line, Groove, we’ve got the local municipal band that plays every Thursday night in town they go through. We’ve got multiple businesses and politicians you know just everything,” Wynja said.
One float in this year’s line up even making a splash into the crowd while shooting water guns .

July fourth is also a day many are reminded of the people who’ve fought for our country.

“The retired military that walk through and people that serve our community and our country. Really that’s what the Fourth of July is. Celebrating our freedom and our independence and giving tribute to them,” Fergen said.

“We’ve got a really good group of people who just want to serve the community. It’s enjoyable just being able to put something on where everybody can come and get together and have a good time,” Wynja said.

Friday night a firework show will be held at Lennox High School at dusk.
