He has been with the broadcaster since 2009, becoming one of the most respected names on TV.

Now, he’s moving away from American football into a new sport, golf.

Schefter will appear as a sideline reporter on ESPN+ from Thursday at the Travelers Championship.

It is understood it will be a one-off assignment, but it could be extended.

He appeared on the Pat McAfee Show on Wednesday to talk about his new venture.

“I do think there is an opening in the golf space,” said Schefter.

“And I think that in time, that’s something that would interest me. I love what I do.

“I’m very happy doing what I do. I want to keep doing it.

“But I’ve done it for 35 years, too.

“And if you have grilled chicken every night, every once in a while, it’s nice to have the stir-fried chicken and just mix it up a little bit, right?”

Schefter has appeared as an NBA sideline reporter to help out ESPN in the past.

“Let me get my golf voice ready,” he added on the Pat McAfee Show.

“Let’s whisper and see how it’s done.

“Are we all ready? I think we are.”
