Harry Reid International Airport has rolled out a pilot program for the new technology[/caption]
The Harry Reid International Airport, Las Vegas, announced last week is was introducing the new tech to “streamline” the travel experience.
In a statement, they said Flight Information Display Screens, or FIDS, will provide estimated TSA checkpoint wait times throughout the airport.
Clark County’s Department of Aviation says the new system is an effort to improve the experience for travelers by providing more useful information in real time.
Rosemary Vassiliadis, Clark County Director of Aviation, said: “This program reflects our continued investment in improving the guest experience by using innovative tools to provide useful, real-time information to travelers.”
Where are the new displays?
Passengers will be able to find the displays in several key areas.
This includes the A and B checkpoint information booths and near the baggage claim elevators.
And travelers can also find wait times at the C Annex checkpoint and the ticketing area too.
Currently, these displays show flight numbers, times and gate information, but no details on TSA lines.
Pilot Program
The update is part of an early pilot program as airport officials test the system and gather feedback.
Wait time displays will then expand to all of Terminal 1 and then to Terminal 3 and the airport’s parking decks.
The information is then expected to be added to the airport’s website at a later stage.
It’s hoped it will help travelers make informed decisions as they navigate through the pre-security section of the terminal.
But the airport still urges passengers to continue to arrive with ample time before their flights.
Checkpoint times can vary depending on passengers load and other factors.
Harry Reid International Airport set a new annual record for passengers numbers in 2024, welcoming over 58 million travelers making it the eight busiest airport in the United States.
New TSA features
Another US airport also recently unveiled a one-of-a-kind family friendly TSA line that gets you through security fast – even with children.
The Los Angeles travel hub launched the special lane last month as part of the TSA’s “Families on the Fly” campaign.
The campaign began its rollout at select airports this summer in the middle of the busy travel season.
The TSA also had to issue a carry warning to travelers after an alternative security method sparked confusion.
Federal officials recently announced changes to certain security policies making it easier for travelers to prove their identity while waiting in security lines.
But it caused confusion among Americans who prove their identity via online security tools before heading to the airport.
