Amazon Fire Stick users yell ‘I am done’ after huge overhaul is revealed and it could mean MORE ads on your TV

AMAZON Fire Stick users have vowed to boycott the company following a major overhaul.

The company announced it will occasionally push an update to a tiny number of random Fire TV devices as an experiment.

It is yet unknown if this will rolled out to all devices.

The update will see viewers’ top apps moved to a dedicated row on the home screen.

And instead of only seeing your favourite six selections, users will now be able to see their top 10.

Your first top app would still only be two clicks away in the new location; three if you count the first click needed to close the auto-expanding header ad.

Users are disappointed

But users flocked to rally against the “disappointing and unacceptable” update.

One fumed: “I no longer trust Amazon on anything.

“Therefore, I finally broke down and bought a Homatics box.”

A second weighed in: “With that layout it’s not a streaming device anymore.”

A third user added: “I’M DONE. I will give up and replace my FireTV Cube with another Onn 4k Pro.

“Very disappointing and unacceptable.”

Freevee app shutting down

It comes after Amazon announced it is planning to shut down its stand-alone Freevee app in August, according to an in-app notice to users.

The free, ad-supported streaming service is directing viewers to continue watching Freevee content on Prime Video.

The notice stated: “Prime Video is the new exclusive home for Freevee TV shows, movies and Live TV.

“The Freevee app will be accessible until August 2025. Continue watching your favorite Free Originals and our library of hit movies, shows, and live TV on Prime Video for free.

“No subscription needed. Download Prime Video to get started and sign-in with your Amazon account.”

The move doesn’t come as a surprise, as Amazon confirmed back in November 2024 that it was sunsetting the service and integrating its content into Prime Video.

Freevee content was already available through both apps and there had been murmurs earlier this year that the name could be axed after Prime introduced ads.

Amazon said in a statement at the time that it had “Decided to phase out Freevee branding.
