Hitting back, Jamal has now spoken out about Carrie’s reaction to his triumphant win.

Speaking on the red carpet of a BET 45th anniversary dinner, Jamal opened up candidly.

Journalist Nate Vinson asked the Idol winner about the “very strong narrative online” around Carrie’s first season as a judge.

Nate said: “People watch the show that felt like she really wasn’t supportive of you like other judges or other people.”

Jamal, who is 27 years of age, then hit back: “Carrie is a country singer and she likes country music.

“I mean, I don’t think she likes every genre for real.

“She had her picks, and she had her [choice] of who she really liked, and she stuck with it.”

‘I FEEL LIKE THE BETTER PERSON WON’

He added: “We applaud her for sticking to her roots and sticking to who she liked, but I feel like the better person won.”

On Facebook, fans reacted to Jamal speaking out, with one person writing: “Glad Jamal Roberts is speaking up. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect, especially on such a big platform.”

Another added: “She was acting as if she hired him to entertain her. She told him to move around more while not telling the other contestants the same thing & they stood like a stick in the mud whenever they performed.”

While a third slammed: “This is a false Controversy!! I watched the whole season and Carrie was gracious with everyone and also gave constructive criticism to everyone. Which guess what? That was her job. And she did it amazingly.”

After Jamal was announced by Ryan Seacrest as the winner, Carrie, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie all stood up and applauded him.

But some fans noticed something odd about Carrie’s body language and how she failed to stand up when Jamal crooned his song a final time after winning.

CARRIE’S COLD REACTION

Reacting to Carrie not standing up when Jamal won, one fan speculated that she might have been asked by show bosses to stand.

Carrie Underwood’s Family

The American Idol winner had relationships with Chace Crawford and Tony Romo but she ultimately walked down the aisle with Mike Fisher.

Mike is a Canadian retired hockey player from Peterborough, Ontario.

In October 1999, Fisher made his NHL debut with the Ottawa Senators.

He played for the Senators until he was traded to the Nashville Predators.

One of the reasons he agreed to the trade was so he could be close to his wife Carrie.

On December 20, 2009, Carrie and her former hockey captain hubby announced their engagement.

On July 10, 2010, Carrie Underwood and Mike tied the knot after almost two years of dating.

More than 250 people were in attendance at their wedding ceremony at The Ritz-Carlton Lodge in Greensboro, Georgia.

Carrie’s engagement ring from Mike features a yellow diamond and was valued at $150K.

In February 2015, the couple welcomed their first child; a son named Isaiah.

In January 2019, the singer and the pro athlete expanded their family further with the birth of their second son Jacob.

“Not Carrie Underwood sitting down and probably being told to stand up when Jamal won,” said one person on X.

Another added: “Carrie underwood is not happy that Jamal won America Idol.”

“Carrie hating until the very end I see. CONGRATULATIONS JAMAL,” penned a third.

Carrie took to social media soon after Jamal had won the show to congratulate him and wish him well.

“Congratulations to the newest winner of @AmericanIdol !!! I’m so proud of Jamal Roberts and all he has accomplished this season and I can’t wait to see what mountains he climbs next!

“He’s going to do great things,” she penned on X.

AMERICAN IDOL FUTURE UNCLEAR

Carrie, who won the show back in 2005, is said to have the ball in her court in regards to a possible return to the singing show as a judge for a second time next season.

“After all the bumps this season, and the beginning was bumpy, the people that matter in the decision making, the powers that be, really love Carrie,” a source exclusively told The U.S. Sun.

“They feel a certain protectiveness toward her.

“They’ve defended any setbacks and criticism she’s endured this season and would gladly have her back.

“The ball is more in Carrie’s court.

“She’s on the fence about coming back, there were times this season I think she would’ve absolutely said ‘no’ to returning.

“But as she’s found her place within the role it’s grown on her more but it wouldn’t surprise anyone on set if she doesn’t return.”
