AS the weather heats up and Americans begin turning on their air conditioners, many are looking to save money.
Energy costs are high, and can costs you hundreds each month.

With climate change making summers hotter and longer, and inflation driving up energy bills, many are in need of ways to save.
Luckily, there are many tricks to help reduce your energy bills in the summer.
A list compiled by energy company PG&E includes six ways to save.
In total, it could keep your bills down by up to $235.
SIX TRICKS
First, the company suggested using a ceiling fan.
Ceiling fans, of course, use energy. However, they generally require much less power than an air conditioning unit.
That means a fan can cool a home down at a lower cost.
PE&G estimated this could save consumers $15 annually.
Next, the company advised installing air-tight AC units.
Leaks can allow hot air into homes and cool air out, reducing efficiency and forcing your AC unit to work harder for the same result.
A tight seal could save you $20 annually, the company estimated.
Changing air filters on AC units can also help you save.
That’s because a dirty air filter can force the machine to work harder to circulate air, costing more energy.
Replacing filters monthly could save you $15 annually. It’s unclear whether this estimate includes the cost of new filters.
Adding layers to your windows may be one of the most powerful ways to save money.
Shade coverings and awnings on windows can keep interiors cooler, saving you up to $140 annually.
Closing shades can also help keep things cool, and save you an estimated $30 a year.
Lastly, PE&G estimates that you may save $15 a year by keeping the area around your AC unit clear, helping air circulate.
