Americans have hours left to get up to $1.5k payout from data breach settlement – all you need is receipt & online form

ELIGIBLE Americans have just hours left to claim up to $1,500 from a huge data breach settlement – and all they need is a receipt and a form.

23andMe agreed to the settlement to resolve claims it failed to prevent and protect customers from a 2023 data leak.

The data breach exposed consumers’ sensitive personal details.

The DNA testing company agreed to a class action lawsuit settlement after customers claimed their information was not properly protected.

Anyone who received a data breach notice from 23andMe last year could be eligible for a cash payout.

The breach, which happened in October 2023, is said to have exposed personal info including genetic data, health reports and raw DNA files.

Shocked customers launched legal action, claiming 23andMe failed to keep their details safe.

Although the company has not admitted any wrongdoing, they have now agreed to pay a settlement to resolve the case.

Under the terms of the deal, affected users could get up to $1,500 if they can show proof of expenses linked to the breach.

That includes things like credit monitoring, ID theft protection, bank charges or other related costs.

Those who do not have receipts or documented losses can still claim up to $500 for general disruption.

There are currently no confirmed dates for court objections or the final approval hearing.

The cash payout follows a separate $30million settlement agreed in September 2024.

That earlier deal mostly benefited people living in Alaska, California, Oregon and Illinois.

This latest offer is open to customers across the US who got a data breach notification from 23andMe.

The company, known for offering ancestry and health DNA tests, has faced major scrutiny since the hack.

In March 2025, it filed for voluntary Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

But the firm is still operating as normal.

To get the free cash which could be worth up to $1,500, claimants need to submit an online form by July 14, 2025.

It comes as Americans still have just days to claim a free payment as part of a massive $100million Google advert settlement.

The tech giant agreed to pay the eye-watering sum in order to resolve claims it overcharged advertisers and failed to provide promised discounts.

It also comes as eligible customers have weeks to get $2,500 from a $3.5million data breach settlement.

Neiman Marcus agreed to pay the gargantuan sum to resolve a class action lawsuit claiming it failed to prevent a data breach that compromised customer information in 2024.
