Community Care Alliance is a nonprofit organization that provides several healthcare-related services.
It also provides housing and other services to communities in Rhode Island.
Community Care Alliance has been hit with allegations that it failed to protect patient information that was stolen in a 2024 data breach.
It is said that the company failed to implement reasonable cybersecurity measures to stop the attack.
The Community Care Alliance data breach compromised sensitive information, including Social Security numbers.
The incident occurred on or around July 29, 2024, and Community Care Alliance has agreed to settle the case without admitting to any wrongdoing.
Community Care Alliance is paying out $1.09 million to resolve the claims.
HOW MUCH WILL YOU BE PAID?
Under the terms of the settlement, claimants can receive up to $5,000 for documented data breach-related expenses.
This includes things such as credit monitoring costs and money lost as a result of fraud due to the stolen information.
You must submit proof that you have suffered a financial loss as a result of the data breach.
This includes something like a receipt or invoice, or another financial document like a tax form.
Class members are also eligible to receive a pro rata, or proportional, payment from the net settlement fund.
This will depend on how many claims are filed, as the more claimants there are, the more people the money will have to be shared between.
While it is impossible to predict what this payment will be per person, it is estimated to pay out an additional $100 per claimant.
What’s a class-action settlement?

Class action lawsuits offer groups of people, or ‘classes,’ a way to band together in court.
These suits are often brought by one or a few people who allege a company or other entity has wronged a large group of people.
When a suit becomes a class action, it extends to all “class members,” or people who may have similar complaints to those who filed the suit.
Companies often settle class actions – offering payment to class members who typically waive their right to pursue further legal action by accepting money.
These payout agreements frequently include statements by the defendant denying wrongdoing. Companies tend to settle class actions to avoid the costs of further litigation.
Pollution, discrimination, or false advertising are a few examples of what can land a class action on a company’s doorstep.
This settlement also includes non-financial bonuses, namely two years of free credit monitoring and identity theft restoration services.
These services include three-bureau credit monitoring and dark web monitoring.
It also covers $1 million in identity theft insurance and fully managed identity recovery services.
WHEN IS THE DEADLINE?
If you wish to file a claim, you must do so by the deadline, or you will not be considered for a payment.
The deadline to file is set for October 1, 2025, and the final hearing for October 8.
If you knowingly submit an invalid claim, you will be harming the eligible claimants.
