Americans in line to pocket up to $5k from $2.3m data breach settlement – you only need to show receipt to get cash

ELIGIBLE Americans have the chance to pocket a huge $5,000 payment as part of a whopping $2.3million data breach settlement – and they only need one receipt.

Food distribution giant Sysco has agreed to pay out the massive multimillion-dollar settlement to resolve claims over a major data breach.

The company was accused of failing to protect customer information during a 2023 cyberattack that exposed sensitive personal data.

Sysco, which supplies food, equipment and other essentials to restaurants, hospitals, schools and hotels, was hit by the breach two years ago.

The payout comes after a class action lawsuit was filed on behalf of affected customers across the US.

Sysco has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to settle to resolve the allegations.

The deal benefits people in the United States who received a notice from Sysco about the data breach around May 2023.

According to the lawsuit, the breach could have been prevented if the company had taken reasonable cybersecurity precautions.

They say that the failure to act led to personal information falling into the wrong hands.

Victims claim they have had to spend time and money protecting themselves against identity theft and fraud since the incident.

They are also facing the long-term risk of future fraud due to their data being exposed.

As part of the settlement, affected customers can claim up to $5,000 for out-of-pocket losses linked to the breach.

This covers unreimbursed costs such as expenses caused by identity theft, fraud or even fake tax returns.

On top of that, all class members are also in line for a smaller cash payment.

This extra payout is currently estimated to be between $100 and $200 but could be as high as $599 depending on how many people claim.

Everyone eligible will also get two years of free credit monitoring services.

The package includes dark web scanning, real-time alerts with all three major credit bureaus and identity theft insurance.

Fraud resolution support is also available if any issues crop up later on.

To get the cash or free monitoring, you’ll need to submit a valid claim form.

The deadline to file a valid claim is September 8, 2025.

If you want to object to or opt out of the settlement, the cut-off date for that is August 8, 2025.

It comes after Americans could claim up to $5,400 from a data breach settlement.

A $3.6million payout was being made by the Retina Group of Washington to resolve claims it failed to prevent a data breach.
