AMERICANS are in line to get a payout from a $4 million settlement.
The money is being handed out by hardware tech company, HP, to settle claims it advertised misleading discounts on its website.

HP, short for Hewlett-Packard, is an American multinational technology company that sells laptops, desktops, printers and other products.
The settlement benefits consumers who bought HP desktop computers, laptops, mice and keyboards at a discount on HP’s website between June 5, 2021, and October 28, 2024.
HP advertised discounts that misled consumers into believing they were getting a better deal than they actually were, according to the lawsuit.
As a result, shoppers allegedly paid more for the HP products than they would have if they had paid original prices.
HP has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to pay $4 million to settle the allegations.
Each claimant will get between $10 and $100 depending on the product type and number of products purchased.
For instance, members who bought an HP ENVY Desktop TE020250xt can receive a $100 payment.
To claim the benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by June 9, 2025.
The deadline for exclusion and objection is June 9, 2025.
The final approval hearing for the settlement is August 21, 2025.
Proof of purchase is required.
What is a class-action settlement?
CLASS action lawsuits offer groups of people, or ‘classes’, a way to band together in court.
These suits are often brought by one or a few people who allege a company or other entity has wronged a large group of people.
When a suit becomes a class action, it extends to all “class members”, or people who may have similar complaints to those who filed the suit.
Companies often settle class actions – offering payment to class members who typically waive their right to pursue further legal action by accepting money.
These payout agreements frequently include statements by the defendant denying wrongdoing. Companies tend to settle class actions to avoid the costs of further litigation.
Pollution, discrimination or false advertising are a few examples of what can land a class action on a company’s doorstep.
It comes as T-mobile some customers are getting as much as $25,000 in compensation from a $350 million settlement.
Hackers accessed the private information of around 76 million users in a data breach that took place in August 2021.
People across the US had their names, addresses, dates of birth and Social Security numbers exposed.
This triggered a class action lawsuit where affected customers accused the mobile giant of failing to protect sensitive data with adequate cybersecurity measures.
While T-Mobile did not admit any wrongdoing, it agreed to a multi-million dollar settlement to avoid further legal costs.
Customers eligible to receive a payout were notified they had to file claims by the January 2023 deadline.
Payments, originally promised for this April, were pushed back without a clear explanation.
After months of delay, cheques and direct deposits are now being distributed.
Those who provided documents proving identity theft or significant financial loss as a result of the breach are said to be pocketing up to $25,000.
Customers who did not suffer direct financial harm – or cannot prove it – are believed to be receiving much less.
