Derrick Nnadi, a Super Bowl winner with the Chiefs, has been traded back to his former team from the New York Jets.
Nnadi signed with the Jets this offseason, but has been returned to the Chiefs before ever playing a snap in New York.
He spent the first seven seasons of his career as a member of the Chiefs before departing after the Super Bowl loss.
Since being drafted with a third-round pick in 2018, Nnadi has missed just one regular season game.
He has played in 115 regular season games for the Chiefs, starting 87 of them.
In 2024, Nnadi lost his role as a starter, appearing in 17 games but only starting one of them.
He signed a one-year, $1.4 million contract with the Jets for a fresh start, but soon became expendable on the New York defense.
The Jets traded for two veteran defensive lineman and suddenly didn’t have a need for Nnadi.
Harrison Phillips was acquired from the Minnesota Vikings and Jowan Briggs from the Cleveland Browns.
After a poor showing from Nnadi in training and preseason, he was shipped off to be replaced with the new additions.
The Jets sent Nnadi and a seventh-round pick to the Chiefs in return for a sixth-round pick.
Chiefs fans are thrilled to see one of their long-time players returning to the team and shared their thoughts on social media.
“Maaaannnnnnnnn, the DL gonna be LETHAL this year!!!!!” one fan said.
“Chiefs are going all in,” another fan said.
