Patrick Mahomes has one of the biggest arms in the NFL, but the Chiefs offense lacked big plays in the 2024 season.
Even with speedsters like Xavier Worthy on the team, Mahomes didn’t unload for many deep connections throughout the season.
However, that is set to change in the upcoming season.
According to Worthy, Reid is looking to have his receivers go long in 2025.
“Coach Reid told us during OTAs Phase 1, ‘When you come back, get your hamstrings ready,’” Worthy told Kay Adams.
“So, we kind of knew that we were going to be going a little deep during practice.
“We kind of got our bodies and our minds ready for what we’re going to be doing in practice.”
In 2018, Mahomes’ first MVP season, his average yards per attempt was 9.58 yards.
In 2023, it was all the way down to 6.86 yards.
Many thought that would change in 2024 when the Chiefs drafted speedster Xavier Worthy out of Texas.
He set the fastest 40-yard dash time in NFL Scouting Combine history with a 4.21 second time.
However, Mahomes’ average yards per attempts dropped even further to 6.80 yards in 2024.
Despite that, Worthy thinks he can break out with Mahomes next season.
“I feel like they started using me a lot underneath,” Worthy said.
“And I can get started over the top because me and Pat are building that rapport together.
“We’re going to build it in training camp. We got it going at the end of the Super Bowl a little bit, so that was a great feeling to be able to connect deep towards the end of the year.”

Worthy is using the Super Bowl loss as motivation to transform the Chiefs’ offense.
“I’m a winner,” he said.
“A loss is general. I hate losing more than I like winning. As a competitor, I feel like that’s how it should be.
“You really don’t have another chance to redeem yourself. You have to wait until next year.
“So, all that built-up tension — all that built-up anger — is just carried over until next year. Either you’re going to stack on it, or you’re going to carry over the loss.”
