Angel Reese makes WNBA history despite another loss for Chicago Sky – and lives up to her nickname in the process

ANGEL Reese has written herself into the WNBA history books – but her team has lost once again.

The Chicago Sky star power forward has continued to show why she has been given a nickname after having another dominant performance close to the paint.

Reese’s Sky has a brutal 5-12 record after Sunday’s defeat to the Minnesota Lynx[/caption]

Reese’s Sky entered Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Lynx with a 5-11 record.

The Lynx escaped with an 80-75 win as the Sky were unable to capitalize on Reese’s stellar game, scoring 16 points and posting 17 rebounds in 37 minutes.

But the performance helped Reese break a WNBA record in the process.

Reese became the first player in league history to tally 15 or more rebounds in five consecutive games.

The second-year player had grabbed that amount of rebounds and more against the Atlanta Dream, Golden State Valkyries, and twice versus the Los Angeles Sparks.

Three of those five games saw Reese record more rebounds than points.

Reese’s recent stretch has proved why “mebounds” has been a term to label her rebounding style.

The term has been used to criticize the 23-year-old’s game as she has a habit of missing layups and grabbing the offensive rebound.

During her five games of rebounding dominance, Reese has had just two games of posting over a 45 field-goal percentage while averaging 5 rebounds per contest.

Last month, she filed to trademark the term “mebounds” – a way of taking the taunts in her stride.

The claim was filed in her hometown of Maryland and is expected to cover clothing such as tees, sweatshirts, hats, etc, with the phrase written on it.

Reese said in a TikTok video, “Whoever came up with the ‘mebounds’ thing, y’all at that up because ‘mebounds’, rebounds, crebounds… anything that comes off that board, it’s mine.

“And a brand? That’s six figures right there.

“The trolling? I love when y’all do it because the ideas be good.

“When y’all have to alter my face because I’m cute, alright, whatever. That doesn’t get me.

*Voted as a starter

“But when y’all came up with ‘mebounds’ because statistically, all the rebounds that I get aren’t always just mine. They’re, like, the defenses, too, or somebody else on my team.

“But, when ya’ll came up with ‘mebounds,’ y’all ate.”

Reese was named to her second All-Star Game.

However, she was only named as a reserve as she didn’t receive enough votes to be a starter.

Reese leads the WNBA with a whopping 13.1 rebounds per game.
