ANNA Wintour has announced she’s quitting her iconic role at American Vogue in a shock career move.
In a surprise announcement to staff on Thursday, media titan Anna, 75, revealed the magazine will appoint a new head of editorial content for its U.S. title.

The Brit has held the position since 1988, when she became editor in chief.
According to The Daily Front Row and WWD, Anna will remain chief content officer at parent company Condé Nast and global editorial director of Vogue, continuing to oversee the company’s international brands.
These include GQ, Vanity Fair, Wired, AD, Condé Nast Traveler, Glamour, Bon Appétit, Tatler, World of Interiors and Allure.
The New Yorker remains under the leadership of editor David Remnick.
The move is part of Condé Nast’s global organisational structure, introduced four years ago to unify editorial teams across all markets.
Each region now has its own head of editorial content under a centralised leadership model.
The new U.S. appointment will join existing regional editorial heads in Japan, China, India, Taiwan, the UK, France, Spain, Germany, Italy, and the Middle East.
Since the restructure, Anna has taken on a global role overseeing content across all Condé Nast brands.
In the early 1980s, Anna joined the staff at Vogue as the magazine’s first-ever creative director.
In 1985, she replaced Beatrix Miller as British Vogue’s editor.
Three years later, Anna became American Vogue’s editor-in-chief.
Her first cover as editor-in-chief appeared in November 1988, featuring Michaela Bercu in a Christian Lacroix jacket complete with a bejeweled cross.
In 2014, supermodel Gigi Hadid recreated the Vogue cover in tribute to photographer Peter Lindbergh’s original image, wearing a black sweater with a similar jeweled pattern.
Anna was named a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire at Buckingham Palace in 2017.
Three years later, in 2020, she was named the Global Chief Content Officer for Condé Nast.

Born on November 3, 1949, Dame Anna Wintour is a native of Hampstead, a neighborhood in London, England.
The 74-year-old is best known for her work as the editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine.
Her father, Charles, was the editor of the London Evening Standard and was considered to have been “one of the greatest and most influential journalists in the second half of the 20th century,” according to The Guardian.
Anna attended the North London Collegiate School before entering the workforce as a teenager.
Her career in fashion began at the age of 15, working for a boutique in London called BIBA.
She was hired as an editorial assistant at Harper’s & Queens in 1970 but quit after a few years to move to New York City.
Upon arriving in New York, Anna worked as a junior fashion editor for Harper’s Bazaar before joining the staff at Viva.
She spent time as the fashion editor at Savvy before becoming the fashion editor at New York magazine.
