But his season opener Saturday was an afternoon to forget.

Manning and the Longhorns were soundly beaten by the Buckeyes despite a late rally.

Texas was the No. 1 ranked team in the nation heading into the game.

They faced the third-ranked Buckeyes, who are the reigning national champions.

And a raucous home crowd in Columbus, Ohio cheered on the Buckeyes to a dominant victory.

Their defence swarmed all over Manning and the Longhorns in a 14-7 victory.

The quarterback took over as starter from Quinn Ewers this season.

But at halftime in the game, his stats were a complete horror show.

Manning had five completions on 10 passing attempts for 26 yards.

He also picked up 13 rushing yards but had zero touchdowns.

And the 21-year-old was the main talking point among fans on social media during the game.

One said, “Arch Manning has more commercials than completions.”

Another commented, “Arch Manning is the Bronny James of football.

While a third posted, “”This is what happens when you put impossible hype on a player for the entire offseason.”

Manning was also picked off by Jermaine Mathews Jr in the third quarter.

And the quarterback was almost intercepted for a second time, but for replay review to deny Sonny Styles the pick.

Manning threw a 32-yard touchdown pass to Parker Livingstone with three minutes and 28 seconds to play.

But the late rally couldn’t save the No. 1 team in the nation as Ohio State’s defence closed out the victory with a fourth down stop.

Manning finished with stats of 17 completions from 30 attempts for 170 yards, one touchdown and an interception.

And he found it tough going against a dominant Buckeyes defence.
