Fred Meyer has earmarked a 155,000-square-foot plot in Caldwell, Idaho, for its new location.

It will be the retailer’s first location in the city and its eighth in Treasure Valley.

It may even concern rivals like Walmart, which also has a location in Caldwell, as Fred Meyer fans praise the chain.

“People on the west coast kept saying how Fred Meyer is better than Walmart and Target, and I’m finally visiting a Fred Meyer and wow I can agree that this store is way better,” one shopper wrote on X.

And Fred Meyer President Todd Kammeyer has teased how the new location will be even better than the chain’s other stores.

“We are incredibly excited to bring a Fred Meyer store to the Caldwell community,” he said in a press release.

“Our goal is to serve the community with quality products and exceptional service, and we look forward to becoming a trusted partner in Caldwell’s growth.”

“News like this is always great to hear!” another local said.

“That is awesome,” a third wrote as others added that they would be signing up immediately for jobs with the chain.

The Kroger-owned company plans to open the site in late 2026 or early 2027, per the Boise Dev.

“The opening of Fred Meyer marks an exciting new chapter for Caldwell,” Caldwell Mayor Jarom Wagoner said.

“This store isn’t just about groceries, it’s about jobs, convenience, and growth.

“It brings new opportunities for our residents, supports local suppliers, and strengthens our city’s economic foundation.

“We’re proud to welcome Fred Meyer to Caldwell and look forward to the many ways it will serve our community.”

Meanwhile, another popular supermarket chain has announced it is also expanding its operational footprint as part of a 225-location plan.
